Explore UK Advanced Nurse Practitioner roles in primary care and community with Your World Nursing.
As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, you’ll already know the importance of caring for your patients well. At Your World Nursing, we feel the same about our nursing candidates. We believe that looking after our nurses and treating them with the same respect they give their patients is the least we can do. So, if you’re looking for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner job in the UK right now, we’ve got you covered. Read on to find out more about our available roles and the benefits of becoming a Your World ANP.
An Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is a nurse who has had extensive professional development and earned additional qualifications from that of registered nurses. Their higher level of practice gives them more freedom and authority when assessing, diagnosing and treating patients in a clinical setting.
Most ANPs work within a primary care setting, where they see patients during surgery appointment hours. They may also work within multiple community settings, including nursing homes and schools. It’s possible for an ANP to switch their work between both primary care and community settings throughout the course of a single day. For example, the ANP may hold a morning surgery at their practice and spend the afternoon caring for nursing home residents before returning to their practice for an evening surgery.
Typical duties for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner include building relationships with patients who have long-term conditions, undertaking physical and mental patient assessments, using assessment results to create and deliver care or treatment plans for patients, working closely with other care services, prescribing, administering and helping patients to manage medication, or planning a patient’s care around their personal health and social care needs.
It’s true that Advanced Nurse Practitioners are a lot like doctors. However, the difference is defined by the lower medical complexity of the patients they treat and their scope of practice, which is more restricted than doctors and pre-agreed by the ANP’s employer.
Because Advanced Nurse Practitioners work so closely with their local community, they must possess strong communication skills and be comfortable working with people of all ages, from the very young to the very elderly. They should also be confident in their decision-making abilities, especially when prescribing medications and creating treatment plans. However, it’s equally important that an ANP knows when to consult other healthcare professionals and departments.
NHS Nurses are paid in line with a banding scale. Advanced Nurse Practitioners are a minimum of Band 7, which means they can be paid at least £40,057 per annum.
