Location: Newcastle Pay Rate: £18.26 PAYE Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday)
Job Description
The Traffic Signal Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems. This role requires technical expertise in electronic mechanisms, compliance with relevant regulations, and coordination with various stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient traffic management.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate reported signal faults across the region and take appropriate action to restore normal functionality.
- Perform installation, replacement, inspection, and maintenance of electronic mechanisms associated with traffic signals and other traffic control equipment.
- Maintain a database of instructions, schedules, plans, diagrams, and other documentation related to traffic signal systems.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and liaise with internal departments, contractors, and public authorities as required.
- Conduct annual inspections, including preventive maintenance, where cost-effective.
- Coordinate on-site installation works as required.
- Complete all technical documentation in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Maintain operational standards in compliance with health and safety regulations, codes of practice, and internal policies and procedures.
- Promote and implement the Council’s Equality Policy in all aspects of employment and service delivery.
- Assist in maintaining a healthy, safe, and secure working environment in accordance with the Council’s policies and procedures.
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Experience in traffic signal maintenance, installation, and fault-finding.
- Strong understanding of electronic and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of traffic control regulations and safety standards.
- Ability to interpret technical diagrams and documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience working within a local authority or transport sector.
- Relevant industry qualifications or certifications.
- Familiarity with traffic signal control systems and software.
