Christmas may be a time for eating, drinking and being very merry, but what about the people in hospital? They can't look after themselves! Yep, Nurses belong to one of many essential professions that simply cannot stop working over the festive period.
So, with everyone at home enjoying their turkey, presents and family time, what can you give to a nurse to make sure that even the double night shift makes them smile?
Here are a few simple ideas:
It's more than just a present; it's a way of life. Nurses need coffee to keep them functioning throughout their long, difficult shifts. So, this Christmas, why not show a nurse how much you care by splashing out on some really fancy caffeine?
Feeling extra generous? Consider buying a coffee machine or some special mugs to drink from!
Most of us take a full night's sleep for granted. Not Nurses. Every minute of sleep is deeply appreciated and very, very needed. Sadly, sleep isn't a present you can wrap...but bed linen is!
Buy a nurse some high-quality bed linen so that every time they climb into bed after a long, tiring shift, they will silently thank you for a great night's (or day's) kip.

This one makes a terrific stocking filler. Every nurse knows the struggle of keeping a pen. Somehow, they just disappear into another dimension, where all lost pens live, never to return. But not this time...
Buy your nurse a pen that can't get lost or be mistaken for someone else's property. This pen from Amazon is retractable, and can be worn on a uniform! While every other nurse is running around looking for pens, your recipient can write to their heart's content.
Wearing scrubs every day is no one's fashion goal (unless you desperately want a part in Holby City). There's just no way you can make them look good...but if you can, please share your secret!
Finding the energy to shop on days off is a challenge in itself for Nurses. Pick out an outfit you know they'll look great in to wear on Christmas Day or any celebrations they can be around for.
With hospital life being so rushed, it's no wonder Nurses find it difficult to slow down and relax. Help them to switch off by choosing a book they can read in a hot bubble bath, snuggled up in bed (maybe in brand-new sheets), or on the commute to work.
Two words - Spa Day.
Spa days can help relax, de-stress and detox the mind and body, which is perfect for someone in a high-stress profession. Your nurse will be so grateful, they'll wish it was Christmas every day!
If you have a nurse in your family, and they can't make it to Christmas dinner, be sure to save them some turkey with all the trimmings! Even if they can't tuck in until 3 am, it's definitely a gift they'll appreciate.
