Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Officer to join a well-established and respected independent organisation supporting General Practitioners in Derbyshire. The role is essential to ensuring accurate financial administration and reporting, supporting a small team and playing a key role in financial planning and compliance.
Main Responsibilities
Finance & Payroll
- Administer all financial processes using Xero accounting software.
- Process invoices, bank payments, and expense claims, ensuring accurate categorisation and coding.
- Reconcile business bank accounts and manage online banking processes.
- Prepare monthly financial reports for the executive team and committee.
- Submit payroll and committee expenses via payroll on a monthly basis.
- Maintain and monitor the annual budget, producing monthly income/expenditure reports.
- Liaise with external accountants and prepare financial submissions.
- Analyse and audit financial data, reporting any discrepancies.
- Administer levy payments from practices and coordinate relevant mandates.
Administration & Office Support
- Support the executive team with general administrative tasks and inbox management.
- Maintain orderly filing of documents (electronic and hard copy), ensuring data security and accessibility.
- Assist in preparing reports, meeting documents, and presentations.
- Provide administrative cover during staff absences and support team collaboration.
Communication & Teamwork
- Communicate effectively with internal staff, external stakeholders, and visitors.
- Attend meetings as required and act as an ambassador for the organisation.
- Respect and support team goals, offering help and training to colleagues where necessary.
Quality & Compliance
- Adhere to all workplace policies including confidentiality, data protection, and quality standards.
- Participate in audits, appraisals, and CPD activities.
- Remain up to date with relevant financial legislation and contribute to process improvements.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Minimum 6 months’ experience in a finance role within an SME environment.
- Minimum 6 months' experience using online accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
- Proven ability to create bespoke financial reports.
- Working knowledge of financial legislation and regulations for SMEs.
- High level of discretion, attention to detail, and professionalism.
Desirable:
- Experience working in a Primary Care or NHS setting.
- Accounting/Finance qualification.
