Job Summary

We are recruiting for a skilled and proactive Network Resource Officer to join our clients IT team on a temporary basis, supporting their network infrastructure. This role is critical in ensuring seamless network operations, providing support for network-related incidents, and handling service requests. The position requires an individual with in-depth knowledge of network systems and the ability to work effectively within a healthcare environment. The successful candidate will be based onsite in Norwich and will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the Trust’s network infrastructure.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert support via the Service Desk for network, telecommunication, and related system incidents and service requests, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Conduct detailed investigations of network issues reported by desktop support, including examining network switches for port connectivity and VLAN assignments. Provide new network connectivity as required.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the Trust and third-party support companies for network-related issues, ensuring effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Handle daily moves, changes, and installations of new data points and telephone extensions, ensuring minimal disruption to users.
  • Provide advice to users on telecom products, such as headsets, answering services, and cordless handsets, to ensure they make the best use of available technology.
  • Collaborate with users, other IT staff, and suppliers to diagnose and resolve network problems, ensuring the network operates at optimal performance levels.
  • Participate in LAN migration projects, including planning and executing out-of-hours work as necessary to meet project deadlines.
  • Replace and refresh network switches, ensuring all connections are properly migrated, and improve cable patching during network migrations.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of network technologies, including Extreme/Enterasys switches, Extreme Management Centre, Extreme WIFI platform, and CISCO Software Defined Networks, to maintain and enhance network performance.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge of the installed hardware, software, and network procedures used across the Trust.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with experience in interacting with users, staff, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach in handling user requests, diagnosing complex network issues, and implementing effective solutions.
  • In-depth understanding of network and security technologies, including Extreme/Enterasys network switches, Extreme WIFI platform, CISCO Software Defined Networks, and Checkpoint R81 firewall.
  • Ability to plan, execute, and evaluate work to meet time, cost, and quality targets, particularly in network migration projects.
  • Competence in managing network switch replacements and migrations, including patching, and improving cabling standards.
  • Qualifications (Desired): Relevant qualifications for CISCO and firewall platforms, and knowledge of Extreme network switch configuration are desirable.

  1. Do you have previous experience working as a Network Resource Officer or in a similar role within a large complex organisation, preferably within the NHS or Healthcare sector?
  2. Are you familiar with the network technologies used in healthcare/similar settings, including Extreme/Enterasys switches, Extreme Management Centre, and CISCO Software Defined Networks?
  3. Have you previously been involved in network migration projects, including planning, and executing out-of-hours work?
  4. Do you have experience diagnosing and resolving network issues by investigating connectivity on network switches, checking VLAN assignments, and managing patch panels?
  5. Do you meet the criteria above, and are you available to start employment on ASAP, if successful and once fully compliant*?
